 Ageing and Innovation Minimize

This blog explores the topic of "Innovation and Ageing," which was discussed at a GRIPS workshop held in Brussels on 18-19 December 2008. Resultant from these discussions, the topic will now be further explored in the 7th GRIPS ministudy slated for completion in March. Please share your views and opinions here and let us know if you are aware of relevant bodies of literatures on this topic which we have missed.

Wii board at £99 is as good as £11,000 specialized medical equipement

The Nintendo Wii has gotten a lot of attention for its cross cutting innovation and multi purpose utility - and here is yet another exmaple. The Wii balance board is found to be as effective as a formerly out-of-reach expensive medical device.

New report on active ageing in the Nordic countries

A new report from The Nordic Network for Adult Learning and the Nordic Council of Ministers on older workers and the workplace entitled "Active Learning and Ageing at Work: New visions and opportunities for older workers in the Nordic countries," has recently been published. It provides ideal input to our new ministudy on skills, ageing, innovation and the workforce in Europe.

New GRIPS ministudy topic - Skills as an innovation input for an ageing European workforce

We are preparing for the next GRIPS ministudy, which will be on the topic of skills, innovation and the ageing of Europe’s workforce. Two recent policy documents inform the groundwork for this study, one from DG Employment and DG Education called 'New Skills for New Jobs' and the other from Cedefop on projected skills needs for Europe in 2020.
