Here is the paper on which Nigel Thrift's interesting talk at the recent AIM workshop on Innovation and Social Science at the Royal Society for Arts was based.
While the afternoon was filled with good presentations on the broad topic of innovation and social science, it was Professor Nigel Thrift's talk which was most captivating. He discussed the recent economic downturn by way of the late ninteenth century French sociologist Gabriel Tarde. Thrift wanted to call attention to the role of 'animal spirits,' hormones and the human propensity for imitation, in creating the seemingly unpredictable economic meltdown of late. The talk was based on an unpublished paper called PASS IT ON: Towards a Political Economy of Propensity.
